What is Council Tax?

Council Tax is a local tax collected from Trafford Council residents based on the value of the property which you live in. It helps pay for local services provided by Trafford Council (‘Trafford’ or ‘the Council’), including adult social care, children’s services, refuse collection, and leisure facilities. As a Greater Manchester authority, Trafford also collect money, as part of the Council Tax, for the Greater Manchester Mayor and to provide police, fire, and public transport services. This amount is included in your Council Tax bill.  The level of Council Tax your household is required to pay is based on the band of the property (for example, there are eight Bands, A to H). The level of Council Tax can be reduced by discounts, disregards, exemptions (if applicable).  Additionally, Council Tax Support (which, if applicable under the scheme’ rules, is mandatory) and Council Tax Support Discretionary payments for which your household may qualify.
