You have us a great deal of feedback as per the below link:

Public Consultation Survey Results V1.pdf (trafford.gov.uk)

In summary, 72% of the respondents agreed that the strategy would lead and inspire behaviour change towards more walking, wheeling and cycling with a majority agreeing that quality infrastructure was a key requirement to increasing the levels of walking, wheeling and cycling.

We did

The feedback formed part of a report that went to Trafford Coucnil's Executive which can be found here:

Overview

Trafford Council have developed 3 priorities in it's corporate plan to improve the lives and wellbeing of residents. The priorities are:

1) Reducing Health Inequalities

2) Supporting People Out Of Poverty and

3) Addressing Our Climate Crisis

Trafford Council have therefore developed a draft Walking, Wheeling and Cycling strategy (see bottom of this page for a link to the draft strategy) with the vision that,

"Trafford is a green and connected borough where more people choose active travel every day."

We will work with our partners, residents and communities to enable more people to take up walking, wheeling and cycling and enencourage a change in behaviour.

Our overall goal is that over the next 10 years:

  • 90% of journeys under 1 mile will be taken by foot / bicycle / scooter.

  • 80% of journeys under 5 miles will be taken by foot / bicycle / scooter or public transport.

Why your views matter

Trafford Council have declared a climate emergency and set a target to reach net zero by 2038, and this global issue must be addressed at a local level through the direct actions and influence of the Council. Transport is a significant generator of greenhouse gases which are contributing to the climate emergency. Therefore by increasing sustainable travel, we will start to address the impact that transport has on the climate emergency. Pollution from motorised transport also affects air quality, and poor air quality has a significant impact on health.

Walking, wheeling and cycling are often the most accessible ways for people to be active, and being active benefits our health, and are generally low-cost or free activities that have practical as well as health benefits. Therefore, enabling and supporting Trafford residents to walk, wheel and cycle more significantly contributes to all three corporate priorities.

Please review the draft strategy (link below). This draft has been initially reviewed by various partners and critical friends, and now we are keen to seek feedback from a wide range of Trafford residents, Trafford businesses and visitors to Trafford on this strategy.

What happens next

The feedback received during this engagement with residents, businesses and visitors of Trafford during the in person and online session as well as this online consultation will be presented to and reviewed by a group of Council Officers representing Leisure, Public Health, Planning and Highways.

The group will then review the Walking, Wheeling and Cycling Strategy and it will be presented to Trafford Council's Executive along with the feedback received from this consultation with a view to adopt the strategy formally to support the aim of addressing our climate crisis and improving health inequalities.
