Trafford CIL Spending Protocol Consultation
Overview
Trafford Council invites you to help inform the Trafford Local/Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Spending Protocol. Comments are invited from 8th September 2025 until 23.59 on 20th October 2025.
Trafford has been collecting the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) since the adoption of the Trafford CIL Charging Schedule in July 2014. The Levy is a mandatory charge on all relevant new development over 100 square meters and is charged on a per square metre basis. Its purpose is to ensure that development provides for infrastructure to support planned growth.
15% of the money collected is to be spent on the provision of local infrastructure improvements or other measures to support the development of the area (referred to as Local/ Neighbourhood CIL).
To date Trafford Council has collected approximately £1.3m for local infrastructure improvements and has decided that the allocation and spending of this CIL money will be focussed on public sporting and recreational facilities and open spaces.
Like many other areas, sport, recreation and open space facilities have received lower levels of investment in recent years and provide many benefits to residents and communities of all ages and backgrounds.
However, before the money can be spent, we want to know how and where Trafford residents and communities believe it should be allocated.
