Urmston Plan Final Consultation

Closes 25 Jul 2025

Opened 4 Jul 2025

Overview

At Trafford Council we recognise that our four main town centres, Altrincham, Sale, Stretford, and Urmston are crucial components to the economic, environmental, and social wellbeing of everyone in the borough. Each town centre provides a unique but complementary offer, where our residents and visitors can easily access a range of facilities and services; and businesses can grow and reach their full potential.

The Council’s ambition remains to work alongside partners to create improved town centre environments that are vibrant and attractive, with a strong and distinctive identity that helps set them apart from their competitors. They should be places where businesses feel that they can start up, grow or invest. Moreover, they should also be places where residents can access the facilities and services they need and provide a strong sense of place which the community are proud of and engage with.

The purpose of the Urmston Plan is set a framework to improve the vitality and sustainability of Urmston town centre, strengthen its performance as one of the borough’s four town centres, improve its visual and environmental appearance and improve accessibility and active travel. The Plan is intended to future-proof the town as a viable, sustainable and dynamic ‘place’ over the next 15 years and whilst not being a statutory policy document, it will help inform the policy framework for the town in the Trafford Local Plan. The Plan will also be used to secure relevant external funding as and when it becomes available.

Why your views matter

The Plan for Urmston will help inform the policy framework for the town in the Trafford Local Plan, and be important in forming the basis to be able to apply for funding when it becomes available.

Trafford Council appointed AEW Architects to lead on the preparation of Urmston Plan and they will be supported by Avison Young, Vectos and CW Studios in creating the vision and masterplan for the area.

The plan has now been completed and we are now seeking your views on the final document.
