We asked

To help ensure Urmston continues to thrive over the coming years, we are working to develop a Plan for Urmston town centre and we asked for your thoughts and views to inform this plan.

The Plan will set a framework on how the vitality and sustainability of the town centre could be improved, how its performance as one of the borough’s four town centres could be strengthened, and how its visual and environmental appearance, accessibility and active travel could be improved. The Plan will also take a high level look only at the development, improvement, and regeneration potential of a number of specific sites in the town centre, and is not looking at the wholescale re-development of the town.

Overview

At Trafford Council we recognise that our four main town centres, Altrincham, Sale, Stretford, and Urmston are crucial components to the economic, environmental, and social wellbeing of everyone in the borough. Each town centre provides a unique but complementary offer, where our residents and visitors can easily access a range of facilities and services; and businesses can grow and reach their full potential.

Why your views matter

The Plan for Urmston will help inform the policy framework for the town in the Trafford Local Plan, and be important in forming the basis to be able to apply for funding when it becomes available.

On 21st March, an in-person public consultation was held at Urmston Library. The event was well attended, with over 140 respondents.

If you could not attend the in-person event, there is still a chance to have your say. This online consultation is designed to give you the opportunity to let the Council know what you like and dislike about Urmston, and what you think could be improved.

Consultation boards from the in-person event are available for you to view via the link below.

Urmston Consultation Boards

The consultation is an opportunity for the Council and their appointed consultants to gather ideas from the local community, which can then inform the new Urmston Plan. Trafford Council has appointed AEW Architects to lead on the preparation of Urmston Plan and they will be supported by Avison Young, Vectos and CW Studios in creating the vision and masterplan for the area.

This project has been made possible thanks to Greater Manchester Combined Authority securing funding, on behalf of the city-region, to deliver UKSPF projects, which forms part of the Government’s wider Levelling Up agenda.
