The School Street scheme relies on volunteers to start with. Volunteers work in pairs to put out the closure signs on the road and escort exempt vehicles through the School Street. Volunteering on a School Street is completely flexible – it can be for a regular morning or afternoon slot or just here and there when you have time. Training and ongoing support will be provided. Volunteers usually find the role a very rewarding experience – it’s a great way to meet people and make an instant difference while keeping children safe and well. School Street volunteer teams are usually made up of parents, grandparents, residents and members of the local community.
