Broadoak School Significant Change Proposal - Adding Resourced Provision for SEND Pupils

Closes 13 Jul 2025

Opened 23 Jun 2025

Overview

Broadoak School is a secondary school in Partington, in the west locality of Trafford, and is part of the Dean Trust. Trafford Council is hosting this consultation on behalf of the Dean Trust.

This consultation is part of the process for making a significant change to an academy and it is separate to the planning consultation process. If you would like to instead respond to the planning consultation, or find out more detail about the project proposed, you can search for planning application reference 116557/FUL/25 in the planning portal. The information is expected to go live in the planning portal in the next week. In the meantime, you can view the outline plans in the attached files below.

Trafford Council has a statutory duty to provide sufficient school places for every child resident in the Borough, including places that meet the needs of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Specialist provision is commissioned in mainstream secondary schools for young people with autism spectrum and social communication needs, known as resourced provision. This gives SEND pupils the flexibility of accessing a mainstream curriculum whilst providing them with additional support to overcome the environmental challenges a secondary school context can present.

There are currently two secondary schools offering resourced provision in Trafford, one in the south locality and one in the north locality. Both provisions are now at maximum growth and are oversubscribed. Trafford Council has been working closely with the Dean Trust and are proposing to create an additional 25 place resourced provision at Broadoak School from September 2026, for pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). This is an exciting opportunity for us to be able to work together to provide a geographical model for resourced secondary provision, so children's needs can be met in their local community.

This is an exciting time, not only for Broadoak School, but for the wider community we serve. It will enable us to add to and improve the existing facilities and offer high quality education to more families in our local area.

Adding the Resourced Provision to Broadoak School is part of the first phase of a two-phase project. Trafford Council’s medium to long term strategy to meet the additional demand for secondary school places expected from new housing developments in the Partington and Carrington area is to expand Broadoak School. This element of the proposal will be aligned with housing development plans and so will be the subject of a further significant change consultation at a future date.

You can use this form to share any comments about the proposal to add the resourced provision to Broadoak School. The closing date is 13 July 2025.
