Local List of Heritage Assets

Closes 1 Dec 2025

Opened 20 Oct 2025

Overview

In January 2021, Trafford Council was selected as a pilot area as part of the Greater Manchester Local Heritage List for the Local List Campaign, funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG).

Nominations for a draft List of Local Heritage Assets and selection criteria were made following a period of public consultation in 2021 and compiled by the Greater Manchester Archaeological Advisory Service (GMAAS). Additional assets have also been identified in Trafford's conservation areas and during the course of planning decisions.

Trafford Council are now seeking the views and comments of Trafford residents on the draft list and selection criteria.

Local heritage assets or non-designated heritage assets (NDHAs) refer to a building, structure, site or landscape which has local heritage significance to be considered when determining a planning application, but does not meet the criteria for formal statutory designation. One avenue that these assets can be identified through is a Local List.

Local Listing provides a means for a community and a local authority to jointly identify and record many of these assets so that owners, developers, organisations or infrastructure providers are aware of their status and value. The List of Local Heritage Assets will also aid the Council in its decision making when considering planning applications.

The List of Local Heritage Assets is a register that identifies the location of each entry.

The Lists and Selection Criteria are available to view below.
